Travelling Pearls of Wisdom

  • I've heard enough Christian Rock to last a lifetime
  • Capri Sun is not child friendly
  • Never, ever leave a digital camera on the desk while you are in the shower and your child is watching cartoons- a naked picture will result in this equation
  • An organized car will leave the starting point, but it will indefinitely be an explosion of goldfish crackers, Capri Sun and some melted gooey substance of unknown origin by the time you reach your destination
  • I have a cartoon crush on Handy Manny's voice (playhouse Disney, folks)
  • Never bring a book to read when you can get E! in the hotel room
  • A 4 year old has an inexhaustible conversation stamina
  • Without cruise control, I might have developed a freakishly muscular right calf
  • I get chest pains filling the gas tank
  • I can only talk so long about 'the Narnia kids' with an inexhaustible 4 year old
  • Truckers scare me
  • Masked bandits might steal your motor home if your name and picture are not airbrushed on it
  • We must have gotten the entire insect population on our windshield
  • I am the only one on the road who knows how to drive
  • Capri Sun is not put-the-straw-in-while-you're-driving friendly
  • That old saying, "It's not the destination, but the journey..." does not apply to Nevada

Man! I've got to practice so I can come up with funny stuff like this! I love my own blog but I must say, it is quite different than yours.

I've learned something from reading this blog. If bad things didn't happen to good people, we would have nothing to blog about to make people think we're clever and funny!

Well thank God for digital cameras or that naked picture could have been quite the embarassment! (Umm, it WAS digital, wasn't it?) :)

Oh, this is the funniest! Thanks for sharing your wisdom! :) Visiting you from SITS.

Thanks goodness it is one swift delete button on the digital camera and not handing in the film and waiting for the photo place attendants to laugh at you. Greetings from South Africa.

You are too funny. Glad you are the featured blogger so I could find your blog!

So very true! My husband always drives and i'm a horrible passenger - i always fall asleep the second the car gets moving. LOL

Happy SITS day! :)

Haha, this is why I don't drive! I get catch up on my sleep on car journeys!! :P

Congrats on being saucy!

Ugh I can relate to so many of those things. LOL

Stopping by from SITS. What a list!

Astrid in Bristling Acres said...

LOL! AWESOME list!

We've done a LOT of traveling...we haven't tried Capri Suns and I doubt we ever will! The juice boxes are a pain too (for the under three crowd). Yes, our car at the end of the journey looks like an explosion of toys, snack stuff, books and "what the heck is that?".
Happy SITS day!

Amy said...

Funny list.

Stephanie, you slay me.

And I thought I was the only one who knew how to drive!

Truckers scare me too - I've "met" several trucker-bullies on the road.

Beth said...

nu-uh! I'm the only one who knows how to drive. :)

Seriously, why don't the slow people stay in the right-hand lane?! Aargh!

Be thankful that you didn't have to take your film in to be developed. YIPES!

Unknown said...

Hilarious! I hope you had a good trip in spite of it all! Happy SITS day!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the advice.

I'll keep the nudie picture problem in mind.

My kids have now declared themselves to old for Capri Sun. Huh? Anyhoo, I've got 4 boxes, but I guess I won't be sending them to you! Visiting via SITS.

Christina Lee said...

uh oh we are leaving to travel tommorow with my four year old. here's what I plan on hearing the whole trip: "and then Luke Skywalker says...... ughh :) happy SITS day!

Ryan and Katie said...

I'll remember these for the next road trip!

Anonymous said...

So funny! I can relate to most of these as well. I don't think any boxed or bagged drink is very child-friendly. Especially in the car!

Ryan Ashley Scott said...

All of this hit home - and made me laugh! Reminds me of the first trip we took, just last summer, with our 3yo. Vacations are a completely different beast when you travel with kids, aren't they?

Anonymous said...

This one really made me laugh out loud! Great post. You can't be the only person on the road who knows how to drive - my husband is sure that *he* is the only person on the road who knows how to drive!

We just had our first family vacation last sept. With a 2yr old and a 6yr old. Yeah, those mysterious sticky spots are not fun. It was almost WWIII in the backseat to figure out what movie we were going to watch next at 3am. Yeah, good times.

Alex the Girl said...

I buy my kids "Honest Kids" juices. They are quite kid friendly...TOOOOOOO kid friendly.

mommy4life said...

We did a 3,000 mile car trip last summer with the kiddos, 4 of them, ranging from 10 to 1! And all these definitely applied.....

Those pesky capri suns

Tanielle said...

You are right on. Traveling is interesting!! Funny post!

Sooooo true!! I feel all of these things just traveling 20 minutes for Target!!!

Funny!

What A Card said...

Oh, I love the joys of a long car trip. Actually, I really do. I don't know how to put a "not sarcastic" tag on my comments ;)

And Handy Manny is voiced by the guy who played Fez on That 70's Show. Weird, huh?

Marrdy said...

Oh my, naked shower photos. Not the kind of thing to share with family and friends when the trip is done huh? Too funny!

Ronnica said...

As far as the naked picture goes, just be glad it's not film! What would you do? Develop it knowing you have other important pictures on it, or scrap it and save the embarrassment?

Rachel Lundy said...

Great list!

Capri Sun is not anyone/anywhere/anytime friendly!!

The saying, "It's not the destination, but the journey..." does not apply to Saskatchewan either.

Unknown said...

LOL...I feel you on almost all of them...

April Kennedy said...

Love the list! Not sure how I missed this one in June.

Reeni said...

You had fun, though, right? Enjoy being the feature of the day!!

Kendra said...

LMAO....to funny

Happy SITS day!

Kari @ A Giveaway Addicted Mommy said...

I believe it's not the destination nor the journey - it is being back home in your own bed that is the best!!

Thanks for reminding me that I have NO desire to travel with my kids!! :)

Happy SITS Day!

jubilee said...

I can relate to so many of those! I loathe Capri Sun. Alas, my kids adore it.

Mimi said...

OMG, what a coincidence, I'm the only one in Michigan who knows how to drive!

I've really enjoyed getting to know you on your SITS day!

Patricia said...

*L* Love the naked picture part. Juice boxes of any kind are high risk in a vehicle

Loved checking out your blog. Happy feature blog day on Sits :)

I enjoyed your post. Congrats on your SITS day......

I totally hear ya on the Capri Sun thing--who invented these things, anyway? Happy SITS day!

Lauren said...

Ha! Great tips, and ain't that the truth about Nevada. There is absolutely nothing anywhere!

Safire said...

Wow, what a list! Things to keep in mind for our upcoming trip! Thanks! I'm going to avoid capri sun like the plague.

Happy SITS day!

I an so relate to getting nothing done when there is E! channel available at the hotel. We don't get it at home, so you can't tear me away from E! True Hollywood Story for nuthin'

Such a cute post! Happy SITS day!

Mrsbear said...

Caprisun is most definitely not child friendly. It is the villain of all disposable juice containers. Great post, the masked bandits concerned me a little. Congrats on your SITS day.

Willo said...

Very funny! I like the bit about the four year olds inexhaustible conversation. I hear you on that!

Rachel Ann said...

LOL!!! I totally agree with all of these. And if you didn't get all the insects then I sure did on my many trips back and forth between WA State and CA!!!

On trips with my sister and brother in law, we drive a big truck with a canopy on it....put a mattress in the back and throw the kiddos back there!!! (along with the dog!)

Christy said...

yeah.....that last one applies to West Texas too. Post, Texas, anyone?

Vickie said...

I had a crush on Captain Feathersword from the Wiggles. Truckers scare me too.

Happy SITS day ... this post is just beautiful!

I was LOL the entire time ... and for someone that doesn't travel, now I have a guide of sorts ... and this: "I have a cartoon crush on Handy Manny's voice" -- priceless!

LOL

Sandra said...

Funny...I thought I was the only one on the road that knew how to drive!

Veronica said...

Totally agree on the capri sun!

blognut said...

Capri Sun is just wrong. Don't drink anything that comes in a pouch!

Ali said...

This is so hilarious! My van doesn't have cruise control and whenever I drive to hubby's parent's house 2 1/2 hrs away, I'm ready for a hot bath and leg massage when we get there!

Is it wrong that every week I hope that this is the week that Manny and Kelly hook up? I know it's going to happen!

Damn Capri Sun!

Live.Love.Eat said...

You do know who is behind Handy Manny's voice right?

Anonymous said...

We just came back from a road trip...sooo true!!!

Bramblemoon Farm said...

IS there really a kid friendly travel drink? I have horror stories, and I agree on the Capri Sun. We are pretty much past Disney Playhouse at our house since my youngest is 8 now. I don't miss the shows- their songs would get into my head and torture me. Traveling with a car full of kids is only fun at the end of trip when you can drop into a soft clean bed. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Michelle said...

Capri Sun isn't just not child friendly, that stuff hates me. It's been banned :) And you did start a great list to remind me of why I hate road trips. HATE. Them.
